In 2023 we planted an abundance of white clover in the spring and fall to help enrich our sandy soil. The fall planting included flowering thyme seeds and several species of native grasses and clumping fescue seeds. The clover helped to protect and condition she soil throughout the fall and winter. We saw terrific growth in the spring.
It took a few years to establish, but once it got going, our hill transformed into a giant fluffy purple cloud of flowering thyme. Insects ranging from cartoonishly large to amusingly small seemed to appreciate its wee tiny little blossoms. Everything you look at, everywhere, is moving. Our once dry and barren hillside of sketchy turf grass has become a verdant oasis teeming with life and activity.
